if your rental got towed

What is most optimal strategy, in terms of minimizing expenses and time, if your rental got towed for parking violation [ok, in NYC]:

Let the rental company handle that. They are the car owner, interested most in getting the car back as soon as possible, and only they would be allowed on towed vehicles lot to retrieve the car.

Notify the rental company and work together with their representative, assisting them in retrieving the car. Since you, as the renter, have the car key, and they, as the car owner should provide notarized document of ownership and get access to the car. They will pay the parking ticket and fees on the spot and will charge you later per rental contract.

Fuck it. I will notify the bank that my credit card got stollen and refuse any charges.

You, the renter, should go as soon as possible directly to towed vehicles lot, pay the ticket and associated fees, and retrieve the car, providing you have the rental contract on hands.

Trying to bribe the official at towed vehicles lot and get the car this way.
